Secondary education in Kenya is not state funded.
Secondary education is therefore only available to people who can afford
to pay. The majority of children in Kenya are therefore deprived of
secondary education and the opportunity to go onto University, purely
because of the lack of finance. This not only deprives the
individual of the opportunity to fulfil his or her potential but
deprives the country and the economy of the potential of all these
people to help the country develop.
A large pool of talented children is missed every year because of lack of money. Amongst the poorest primary school children I have met girls and boys with ambitions to be surgeons, doctors and politicians to improve the country....and so the list goes on. Although they have the talent and enthusiasm none of these children will achieve their ambitions because they cannot afford to go to secondary school, the passport to University........more
